Second Chances

Today is my 47th birthday. So far my Cultivate 2014 has not proceeded as I planned. I have been too wrapped up in "to dos" and reacting to what is happening around me to cultivate the life I truly want and live in the life I have.

While that thought is depressing to me, I am also lucky that I have this "start over". This is my second chance at a new year. Starting today I can make my word come alive. Starting today I can work on my project of "Cultivate 2014".

One year from now, as I happily celebrate my 48th birthday, I want to look back and feel a sense of growth. As I read this morning (one of the habits I want to cultivate) in Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin, she quotes William Butler Yeats, "Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure, but simply growth. We are happy when we are growing." She continues to say that the process of striving after goals is the process that brings happiness rather than the attainment of goals.

Here are Gretchen's goals:

Possessions: Find True Simplicity
Marriage: Prove My Love
Parenthood: Pay Attention
Interior Design: Renovate Myself
Time: Cram My Day with What I Love
Body: Experience the Experience
Family: Hold More Tightly
Neighborhood: Embrace Here
Now: Remember Now

Hmmmmm...I think I could cultivate some of these same things.
Here's to second chances....
